What Happens After You Form Your Business?

If you’ve already chosen a structure for your business, congratulations! (If not see our previous article on the topic). Law 4 Small Business (L4SB) is thrilled to now announce that it provides Registered Agent Services in ALL 50 STATES!

Hiring a competent Registered Agent is very important when it comes to starting your business. A Registered Agent is “someone whom you designate to receive official papers for your business [including] documents related to lawsuits, and also important communications from the state such as renewal notices for business registrations.” Whether your company is a limited liability company (LLC), corporation (S-Corp or C-Corp), limited partnership, or limited liability partnership (LLP); you will need a registered agent in the state (or states) you want to do business in and register your company accordingly. That’s why its so important to choose the right registered agent.

Business Attorneys as your Registered Agent.

Who Makes a Good Registered Agent?

Suppose you want to form a LLC for your business in Texas, but you also want to have branches in New Mexico and Arizona? You would register your LLC in Texas as a domestic limited liability company and register your LLC in New Mexico and Arizona as foreign limited liability companies. In all states, you would need to designate a registered agent with your company registration. If you are located in Texas, you can use yourself as your own registered agent. But because all states require a physical address in the state of registration, you could not use yourself as a registered agent in New Mexico or Arizona (unless you had a real, physical address in those states). If you are considering expanding to multiple states, consider hiring someone that can provide National Registered Agent Services. In this example, you would have to hire a New Mexico Registered Agent like Law 4 Small Business (hint, hint) to act as your registered agent in New Mexico and Arizona. We have the ability to provide Registered Agent Services in all 50 states!
